RVers Say Their Summer Travel Plans Are Still a Go
RVIA's recently completed Campfire Canvass Survey shows that fuel prices are not causing RVers to cancel travel plans for the months ahead.
The survey of RV owners' travel intentions was conducted when fuel prices were at a national average in excess of $3.35 per gallon. 93 percent said they'd use their RV as much or more than they did last year.
RVers said they would adjust by traveling to destinations closer to home or staying longer in one location. More than four-in-five (83 percent) said that even with higher fuel prices, their RV vacations cost less than other forms of travel.
In addition to questions about travel plans in a time of fluctuating fuel prices, the survey collected valuable information about RV owners. For example, 75 percent of RVers recycle while on RV trips, but only 46 percent said they recycle when on non-RV vacations.
The survey reveals that RVers try to be more "green" by minimizing the use of air conditioning (78 percent) and turning off home utilities while traveling (69 percent).
For many, RV vacations are part of a healthy lifestyle. Sixty percent say they eat healthier on an RV vacation than they do on other types of vacation. 70 percent say they are more physically active on RV trips than they are during other vacations, and than when they're at home.
Many RV owners plan to use their RV's to take more mini-vacations (57 percent), enjoy nature (63 percent), escape the stress and pressure of everyday life (60 percent), and spend more quality time wiht family (54 percent).
91 percent of RV owners are planning three or more weekend RV trips this spring and summer. | |
